African Safaris
We offer safaris in several countries in eastern and southern Africa.
A Step Ahead founder Justin Bell was brought up Zanzibar (Tanzania) and in Kenya. Later he was based in Tanzania’s safari capital, Arusha, for 25 years.
Parts of northern Kenya have unique species of wildlife and very different desert landscape. There are many wonderful homes and camps on private ranches in this area. The contrastingly lush wildlife-packed Masai Mara Game Reserve borders Tanzania. It is here and across the border in the northern Serengeti that the famous great wildebeest migration spends the dry season months.
Tanzania incorporates the Serengeti National Park, haven for these great migratory herds. Not far from there, Ngorongoro Crater is not only spectacular, but has some of the highest densities of big game anywhere on the planet. Tanzania´s Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa.
A Step Ahead guide Dave Christensen is from Zimbabwe. We offer safaris here and in the rest of the southern African region including Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Zambia.
Botswana is famous for the Okavango Delta, and Namibia is known for its stunning desert scenery. Zimbabwe and Zambia are popular for walking safaris, especially in Hwange and Mana Pools National Parks in Zimbabwe and in South Luangwa national park in Zambia. The travel hub to get to these areas is Johannesburg airport, and for those keen on luxury and some wine tasting, South Africa has lots to offer.
We also organize safaris to see the mountain gorillas and birdlife in Uganda and Rwanda, and we journey to the ancient cities of Ethiopia.
For more information on any of these or other countries visit the appropriate section using the map or navigation tabs. Although it is possible to visit more than one country, many of the countries we visit are large and varied enough for a 10 to 14 day safari.
Africa is huge and there are relatively few international flight connections within the continent. It is not advisable to combine east and southern Africa unless you have a lot of time or a private jet.
If you have a specific area of interest, we would enjoy the privilege of researching and incorporating it into an itinerary for you.
